In the English county of Suffolk Felixstowe is a seaside town and working port which sees a fair number of travellers passing through each year. With a traditional British seaside feel and a pier this is a place where holidays have been taken for many years and those travellers looking for a Felixstowe hotel have plenty of options to choose from.

There has been a village on the site of Felixstowe town since long before the Norman Conquest, making this a good area for lovers of English history; the area has traces of Roman, Anglo Saxon and Medieval Defence structures which stand as a testament to the town's role in defending the British coast. The town's history is recorded at the Felixstowe museum which is an interesting day out for visitors to the area. The traditional seaside pier is another popular destination for visitors to Felixstowe. In its original form the pier even had its own railway but this stricture was demolished in the Second World War to prevent enemy troops finding an easy access route to land. The town was also one of the places bombed in the Blitz. Since then the pier has sadly fallen into disrepair and is no longer open to the public; but it is still a popular landmark in the area.

The working port means that the town attracts a fair number of business visitors and any Felixstowe hotel will have the facilities needed to accommodate a business guest. There are a few well known hotel chains in the area alongside some independently run establishments. Internet access including Wi-Fi in the rooms is on offer as are tea and coffee making facilities. The larger hotels are all situated near the main railway station making them easy to access; while the more traditional type of hotel can often be found on the seafront. There is also a good selection of Felixstowe hotel offering gym and leisure facilities to their guests; and those looking for a break in relaxing surroundings while enjoying the health benefits of a spa, will only have to travel a short distance outside the town to find a comfortable quality hotel offering all the facilities they require.

One of the most notable properties of this type is set in a fourteenth century monastery. A building of totally unique architecture this fairy tale structure is set in the heart of rural Suffolk near Rendlesham Forest. With a striking Gothic interior the small premises only has six bedrooms but all are luxuriously furnished and have the charm of open log fireplaces. TV and Hi-Fi systems, en suite bathrooms and a "Morning Tea Tray" are all provided to make the guests experience a comfortable one. Bed and Breakfast accommodation is the only option here but the nearby town of Felixstowe has plenty of restaurants that can provide and evening meal.

For those who want to be in the heart of the town there are plenty of options for finding a good Felixstowe hotel and the choice of traditional family run hotel is quite extensive. All still offer modern facilities but provide a cosy well furnished home from home feeling which makes for a comfortable seaside break for all the family. These properties are rich in character and are often traditionally furnished to match the elegant Victorian exteriors of the building.

Those who enjoy a walk in the sea air will find Felixstowe an ideal place to stay. Walks along the promenade are only just the beginning; the cliff walks take in the scenery of the local coastline and there are also walks at the Landguard Nature Reserve. The nature reserve is a popular local day out attraction particularly for families. The Landguard Fort dates back to the 16th century and it is the site of the last invasion of England ever carried out. A rather entertaining way to spend a Sunday afternoon is to take part in one of the Forts Ghost Tours.

Lovers of all things maritime will enjoy a view of the actual port. The first ship docked here in 1886 and the port is now the largest container port in Europe. The marine traffic that travels through Felixstowe means that the roads into the area can often get clogged up with lorries heading for the port. Anyone staying in a Felixstowe hotel is advised to allow extra time if travelling by road.
